OUR CHOIR
We are delighted that we can maintain a strong musical tradition at St Nicholas led by a team of committed and experienced musicians.
We operate three choirs in order to provide a variety of musical content for our services and to encourage participation with different levels of time commitment.
The Antiphon Choir is the traditional SATB Anglican church choir, singing (we hope to a good standard) a wide variety of choral repertoire, accompanied and unaccompanied. The choir rehearses weekly and usually sings for three Sunday morning Eucharists and two choral evensongs a month, plus mid-week choral services for Ash Wednesday, Holy Week and Ascension.
The Junior Choir are a lively group of children ranging from age 6 - 13. They learn the core Anglican choral repertoire (including some Latin and French motets) to sing with the Antiphon choir, as well as children's pieces. They learn about music and the Church in context, and work towards RSCM choir medals. They rehearse every week and usually sing in services twice a month. Our Junior Choir members are encouraged to move on to the Antiphon Choir when appropriate.
The Baptistery Choir meet once a month for rehearsal and lead the music one Sunday a month - they sing mostly relaxed and contemplative style pieces in unison or harmony, especially in the "Hail Gladdening Light" evensong. In recent years the Baptistery Choir have joined with the Antiphon Choir for “big” services for Christmas and Easter.
In addition to the musical content of our regular services, various other musical events have been organised in recent years such as dramatic productions, pantomimes, concerts and carol singing.
